FALL FASHION BASICS
With fall right around the corner, I want to share my favorite fall fashion basics I can’t live without. These pieces can be layered or worn by themselves. When shopping for basics, you want to make sure you are sticking to more neutral tones. This allows you the opportunity to layer and use each item throughout the season and into winter as well.
Basics I can’t live without:
- Long sleeve t- the perfect to wear a million times.
- Camel block heels- Block heels are a must and camel is one of my favorite fall colors.
- Blazer- Always always layer with blazers in the fall. It is so easy to look ‘polished’ when adding a blazer to your outfit.
- Military jacket- Want to look trendy but wear a classic piece? This one is great for that!
- Off White denim- Don’t want to stick out like a sore thumb in bright white. Tone it down a bit with a vanilla hue.
- Denim (duh I love it)- I can’t live without denim. Straight leg has always been a favorite of mine and slim ones have a similar effect. They don’t squeeze my thighs to the point of suffocation. It tapers off just a bit creating an incredibly flattering look.
- Leopard flats- Add some fun to your feet and pattern mix away with denim, polka dots, and stripes.
- Hoop earrings- A sassy classic that will never go out of style.
- Nude body suit- Nude goes with everything and a body suit helps to smooth things out.
I am really focusing on the youthfulness and strength in femininity throughout these fall fashion basics I can’t live without. I want to feel comfortable in my clothes as well as appearing sassy and polished. I styled these basic pieces two different ways, but could come up with a few more outfits by changing out the denim, tops, and jackets.

I enjoy a long sleeve t and I like them even more when they come in white, nude, and grey. I am such a neutral color girl when it comes to my basics. I have to be able to swap them out for multiple outfits. There is something about a basic white t that screams high fashion to me. I feel polished without having to really try hard. This is really big for me as a mom; I already feel like I’m trying so hard to get my to-do list accomplished that most of the time I want to look put together without seeming like I tried too hard. I want it to look like my outfit came together naturally.
My newest secret to appearing put together is a bodysuit! My nude top in the second outfit is in fact a pair of spanx. There you have it folks, Rachel Johnson wears spanx as a top and it is completely acceptable. Wearing the spanx body suit is my way of getting dressed quick and adding romantic appeal. My sassy fashion is definitely coming out in this outfit; from the bodysuit to the leopard print flat, this outfit is a sight for sore eyes.
Both outfits I picked out are extremely versatile. I really love that I can use these pieces throughout fall and get a lot of use out of them. Be on the lookout for these pieces later in the season!
